Goal Setting Tips

Have you recently set a new goal? I have some tips to keep in mind:

Practice makes progress.

I’m sure you’ve heard “practice makes perfect” but perfection is unattainable. We can never be perfect. We’re humans. We cannot be 100%, 100% of the time, so make your goal progress!

Draft your goal clearly.

To help with goal attainment, your goal should be clear. For my *REST devotional readers, they’re setting a single goal each month. It’s only one goal because being focused matters. And being clear helps you create a clear path to completion.

Let’s say my goal is to drink more water. However in order for it to be clear, I want to be more specific. Such as: by the end of the month I want to be drinking 64 ounces of water every day.

Draft a simple plan.

Don’t make it complicated and set yourself up to succeed by planning the resources you’ll need. Keeping with the water goal, it could look like this: I’m going keep a measurement-lined-water bottle with me so I can count ounces. I’ll drink 32 ounces of water each day, and increase my intake by 8 ounces weekly, until I reach 64 ounces a day.

Can you see the difference of this goal rather than simply saying “I’ll drink more water?”

Being focused, clear and having a simple plan will set you up for success.

Remember, your goal is progress – not perfection. If you miss a day or two, no big deal, jump “back on the wagon” and keep working toward your goals!
